We arrived at Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados, around 8am today. The island has a population of 280,000 with tourism as a major part of the economy. They also export sugar. It use to be a part of the British empire but now is independent.
Rebecca did not go on the tour we had booked. I did the "Luxury 4x4 Safari" tour. At 9am I boarded a Land Rover with 10 other passengers for a 3 hour drive all over the island. We even went off-road for a while on a rough dirt/mud road through the forest. Ian, our driver and guide, was very talkative and a funny man. We stopped on the other side of the island along the ocean for some refreshments. It was a rum drink he called "jungle juice". There was also some coconut cake that was very good. The tour was a good one.
This afternoon I discovered our September 3rd flight from Budapest, Hungry, back to New York JFK had been cancelled by American Airlines. So I have been talking to a reservations supervisor trying to get some kind of flight back to DFW. Looks like I am going to have to buy tickets on British Airways from Budapest to London's Heathrow. American will fly us to DFW from there. The BA tickets will cost me $500. Bummer!
At 6pm we are sailing again and will be on St Lucia tomorrow. Tonight we are dining with friends from Houston, Fred & Patti.
