Matarani, Peru--Photos

Our route from Pisco to Matarani, Peru
Coastline all along Peru is barren like this and is due to Humbolt current.
White stuff is some sand but mostly volcanic ash left from eruption 20 years ago.

Port is tiny and mostly a commercial one.
Small opening the Captain had to maneuver our ship through.

Storage bins for grain (corn, soybeans, & wheat) imported via ships from Argentina.

I took shuttle bus to town of Mollendo lying on the coast 30 minute drive from port.

In late afternoon dump trucks deposited this and they were putting it into huge plastic bags.  Not sure what it is though.
By 10pm look at the number of bags they had filled.
They were unloading grain from ship into these trucks.
