We were scheduled for a 5 1/2 hour tour today to a couple of bodegas (wineries) where pisco, the grape brandy, is made. Over 3 hours of this tour was to be riding in a bus so after being off the ship for 3 days, we decided to cancel this tour and rest up. Besides, I had 3 days of blog postings and lots of photos to get posted. I worked most of the morning on the blog but took a break to go workout for first time since I had injured my foot. It seems to be ok now. There was absolutely nothing where the ship was docked so took a 30 minute shuttle bus trip to a very little town, Paracas, Peru, that had a crowded beach today as it was Sunday. Not sure where all these people came from as it is very barren along coast of Peru. I was saw it all in 30 minutes and returned to the ship on the next shuttle. Got a few photos though. Have been working again on adding photos to the blog all afternoon.
It is now 5pm and we are sailing for the next port, which is Matarani, Peru, and will be arriving there tomorrow morning. Ship's horn is sounding every minute now as we are in a fog. You can only see about 100 yards. It turned very cold so guess the fog formed over the warm water. I don't recall seeing it like this on any previous cruise.
Tonight is the Captain's Welcome Aboard party and dinner for everyone but especially those who just joined the ship in Lima for the second segment of the South America cruise. This segment is from Lima to Buenos Aires, 25 days long. Because this is a long segment, we will be having two "formal optional" nights. Tonight is the first. So I will be wearing my tux and Rebecca, her royal blue St John's suit. We love to dress up. We are to meet Suzie & Fred, in suite next to us, for cocktails at 7pm and will have dinner together after that. Fred is my hero!! He is 88 years old and went to top of Macha Picchu. Incredible!! I bowed to him last night and told him he was my idol. Not sure if Captain will be able to attend HIS party because of this fog. Think he will have to be on bridge while in this very thick fog. Anyway, we really enjoyed dining with Suzie and Fred last week so are looking forward to a fun evening. They also enjoy getting gussied up.
We are now watching the Baltimore/New England football game and will get the other game later tonight. Guess I better sign off as have a few photos to add then I will be all caught up. REMEMBER TO CLICK ON THE PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM, ESPECIALLY THE MACHA PICCHU PHOTOS . ALSO THE POSTINGS AND PHOTOS ARE IN REVERSE ORDER, MOST RECENT POSTING IS LAST. ARCHIVE "OR LISTING" OF POSTINGS IS NOT LEFT SIDE, SO YOU CAN CLICK IN THEM ONE AT A TIME TO VIEW.
