Thursday, Jan 12th--Day two in Cartagena
Last night we elected not to dine under the stars as was too warm and humid for us. We dined in the Compass Rose dining room and both of us had some wonderful Dover sole. We did not go up on deck for the folkloric show either. Up early at 6:30am to see how foot felt. It was ok, so we met for our scheduled tour, "Cartagena Shopping and Historical Sights" at 8:20 after a little room service breakfast. The tour bus had the narrowest aisle I have ever seen. Definitely not built for "cruise-sized" passengers. If you have been on a cruise, you know what that size is! I enjoyed the historical part of our tour as our guide was very good. We had some time to shop at "old barracks" (see photos) and at a little shopping mall at end of the tour. I found the prices to be very expensive. Coffee, emeralds, silver jewelry, cigars, and leather products sold here. Sorry, no drugs. We got back to the ship at noon and had a bite of lunch before we sailed out of port at 1pm. We are now on our way to the Panama Canal. Captain said we should be entering first of the locks tomorrow morning at 8am. The canal transit will take all day but more of that tomorrow. I have spent the last 3 hours downloading photos from camera then uploading them on this blog. It's now 4pm and ship has some rolling movement now. Not bad but Captain said we should have good ride this evening. He is usually right, but ???? Rebecca is back from gym. I may go do some weight training now. The show for tonight is pre-dinner at 6pm and features the ship's singers and dancers. Will probably go as they are soooooo good. Ok, I requested the chef make us veal Parmesean tonight for dinner. I am anxious to see if his will be better than the French chef we had for transatlantic cruise end of November. Will let you know how that goes tomorrow.
